Kia ora bloggers, Today my class did a test on how to sustain/help the environment. we could not search anything up. The other day toroa did a wearables art show on ocean pollution. So I decided to do it on ocean pollution since I learned quite a bit the other day. I found this really fun and interesting. Have you done any tests yet?
Ocean pollution
Did you know if we don’t stop polluting our ocean our children or grandchildren won’t have an ocean? Ocean pollution is real and is affecting all of our marine life. Did you know that the Great Pacific garbage patch is the size of Texas and Texas is one of the biggest cities in the world?
Boyan Slat is one of the many people trying to help marine life by creating inventions to pick up rubbish in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. When Boyan Slat was 15 he went on holiday to Greece. He excepted to dive through shimmery, glassy water and see fish dart past his. Instead, he dived in and all he saw was plastic bags and plastic bottles. He was shocked to see how much plastic was in the ocean. The next day he thought to himself how can I help the ocean so people can dive into the glassy, shimmery water. He started inventing and invented a machine that picks up rubbish in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.
Did you know that heaps of marine animals die a year because of ocean polllution? Heaps of animals feel pain and frustration from losing loved ones. Heaps of animals mistake plastic for food. Some animals eat microplastics that they cant see. So then the animals get caught and eaten by us, so, therefore, we, us humans are eating teeny microplastics. Heaps and heaps of jellyfish mistake plastic bags for food so then they get tangled up in the bags and pass away. We need to start acting now.
Coral bleaching is a real problem and I believe no animal should have its home taken away because of us humans. Coral bleaching is caused by sunscreen. It makes the coral lose its color and causes animals to leave their home. We need to protect coral so future generations can see coral in real life not just in pictures. The great barrier reef is home to over 1000 animals and is decreasing quickly. We need to start acting now, otherwise, it will be too late.
This is why I believe that no worthy animal should have its home taken away. There are many more reasons than this, on how pollution is affecting our planet and our ocean. There are millions of species that live in our ocean and that number is slowly decreasing. We need to save the blue heart of our world. We need to start acting now.
